U-Boat

During World War II, Ilvo Fontana was given the assignment to produce timepieces for the pilots of Italian navy submarines, also known as U-boats.

These timepieces would have to be large and clearly visible under any conditions. While the task never name to fruition, it ultimately went above and beyond its purpose almost sixty years later when Italo Fontana, Ilvo’s grandson, utilized the original concept to capitalize on a surge of horological creativity in Tuscany and create a new timepiece. Named for the initial plan from 1942, U-Boat was brought to light in 2000, a company dedicated to a unique sense of style displaying recognizable Tuscan elements of strength and character in the self—assured design.

U-Boat’s watches are packed with eccentric beauty, putting them in a league of their own. Each piece is powered by an automatic or manually wound Swiss ETA movement, a sure sign of the company’s dedication to quality work.
